Operating in Bali with currency can feel like things cost a fortune when you’re handing over multiple notes.
Here are some things that helped me to adapt to the Indonesian currency for your Bali travels:
First and foremost, all ATM machines spit out your money before returning your card. Please do not walk off without pocketing your card (like many people do).
Aim for a reputable bank ATM. CITIBANK, Permata, and Maybank are good to look for.
Convenience stores often have ATMs inside them. Circle K is one that I know often does, but not always.
Coins are not worth much so we can kind of ignore them.
We all know that exchange rates fluctuate daily, but here is a good trick for Aussie travellers. 10,000 IDR = $1 AUD, so moving forward, just remove the 4 zeros to do a quick cheats calculation back to AUD. Ie $10,000 minus all ‘0000’ = $1
Also, here is a quick guide you can save for when you visit:
100,000 IDR = $10 AUD (pink note)
50,000 IDR = $5 AUD (blue note)
20,000 IDR = $2 AUD (green note)
10,000 IDR = $1 AUD (purple note)
This will keep you out of hot water during your Bali stay.
